Will a smart lock fit a standard Australian front door?

We have a fairly typical timber front door on a Gold Coast home. How do I know if a smart deadbolt will actually fit before I buy one?
Most cylindrical deadbolt-style smart locks are designed to replace a standard single-cylinder deadbolt, and many common Australian timber doors accept them. Before buying, measure three things: door thickness (commonly 35–45mm), backset (the distance from the door edge to the centre of the bore, usually 60mm or 70mm), and the cross-bore diameter (often 54mm). Then compare those numbers with the product’s fitment specs. If your door uses a mortice lock or a multi-point locking system, it is not a straight swap — talk to a licensed locksmith.

Measure door thickness, backset and cross-bore, then match them to the product specs. Mortice and multi-point doors need a locksmith.
I photographed my old deadbolt and the door edge with a tape measure before ordering — made comparing fitment specs much easier.
Ours was a 70mm backset which a few US-oriented locks did not list clearly, so double-check that number specifically.
