Most modern smart locks offer both. The question is which method you will use every day — and what backup you want when that method fails.
Fingerprint strengths
- Fastest for household members once enrolled.
- No code to share or forget.
- Good for kids and frequent in-and-out days.
Fingerprint limits
- Wet, dusty or cold fingers can reduce recognition.
- You still need a code or key for guests and deliveries.
Keypad strengths
- Easy temporary codes for cleaners, Airbnb guests or tradies.
- Works with gloves and wet hands more consistently than some sensors.
Practical recommendation
Choose a lock that does both, plus a mechanical key. Use fingerprint for the household, codes for visitors, and keep one spare key in a known place.
