Is a video doorbell the same as a video intercom?
Closely related. Doorbell cameras usually talk via a phone app. Classic intercoms use a wired outdoor camera plus an indoor monitor. Some kits do both; video smart locks add a camera to the lock itself.
Do I need Wi‑Fi?
App-based doorbells need reliable Wi‑Fi at the door. Screen-only wireless kits and many wired intercoms work without Wi‑Fi. Building upgrades like Ring Intercom need Wi‑Fi inside the apartment.
Will this unlock my front door?
Only models designed for unlock — video smart locks, wired kits with unlock wiring, or building intercoms that buzz the lobby. A standalone doorbell camera does not replace a deadbolt.
Are there monthly fees?
